ABPI response to the Government's Plan for Patients

Health Secretary Thérèse Coffey has today published its Plan for Patients, so that patients receive easier access to NHS and social care this winter and next.

Ensuring patients can access the latest medicines and treatments will play a huge role in supporting the Health Secretary in improving patient outcomes and - if we get this right - can help tackle the backlog in care and help place the NHS on a firm footing. Richard Torbett, Chief Executive, ABPI

Responding to the Plan, ABPI Chief Executive Richard Torbett said:

“The Health Secretary has rightly put the priorities of patients at the centre of her plans to support the NHS as it faces the combined challenges of the backlog and winter pressures.

“Making sure people can see their GP, get the right diagnosis and access the right treatment as quickly as possible has a huge impact on improving patient outcomes.

“Ensuring patients can access the latest medicines and treatments will play a huge role in supporting the Health Secretary in improving patient outcomes and - if we get this right - can help tackle the backlog in care and help place the NHS on a firm footing.”
